When someone is overtaken in sin — not through deliberate rebellion but through the weakness of the flesh — Paul's instruction is not harsh judgment or silent pretense but gentle restoration, the way a skilled physician sets a broken bone. The legalist in us wants to prove our own righteousness by treating another's failure harshly, but Paul's sobering reminder is to consider ourselves, because we have stumbled in the same ways more often than we like to admit. The Moment You Try to Earn It, You've Left It Galatians 5:4-5 NKJV - You have become estranged from Christ, you who attempt to be justified by law; you have fallen from grace. For we through the Spirit eagerly wait for the hope of righteousness by faith. Falling from grace is not a loss of salvation but a tragic step backward — trading the freedom of Christ for the exhausting and impossible task of trying to justify ourselves through law-keeping. Paul makes clear that the moment we attempt to be justified by works, we estrange ourselves from the very grace that saved us, because grace and self-justification cannot coexist — one cancels the other. No one but Jesus could make propitiation for our sins, standing in our place to satisfy God's wrath and restore our relationship with the Father, and no amount of law-keeping on our part could ever accomplish what only He could do. You Weren't Redeemed to Stay a Stranger Galatians 4:6-7 (NKJV) - And because you are sons, God has sent forth the Spirit of His Son into your hearts, crying out, "Abba, Father!" Therefore you are no longer a slave but a son, and if a son, then an heir of God through Christ. Through the redemption of Christ, we are no longer strangers, slaves, or distant subjects of a legal arrangement — we have been adopted as sons and daughters, made full heirs of God with the same inheritance as the natural-born Son. God did not redeem us to set us aside but to draw us close, sending His own Spirit into our hearts to cry out the most intimate of names — Abba, Daddy — the same word Jesus used when He prayed to the Father in the garden. No law, no sin, and no accusation of the enemy can outcry the Spirit's witness that we belong to God as His beloved children, freely given a relationship we could never have earned. We were not redeemed to relate to God through cold legality but through warm, personal intimacy — and today we are invited to cry out to our Father not with hesitation but with the confidence of a child who knows they are loved.   Read More

You Didn't Start by Works, So Why Try to Finish by Them? Galatians 3:3 (NKJV) - Are you so foolish? Having begun in the Spirit, are you now being made perfect by the flesh? If salvation could not be earned by keeping the law, it makes no sense to think that our ongoing sanctification can be maintained by it either — and yet this is the trap so many believers fall into after coming to Christ by faith. Paul calls it foolishness because Jesus, who was perfectly sinless, had to die to accomplish what the law could never do — which means our own efforts at self-perfection fall laughably short of what is required. Satan's strategy is simple: if he cannot stop us from being saved by faith, he will attempt to derail our growth by convincing us to complete what was started by grace through works. The same faith that brought us to Christ is the same faith that carries us forward — and the One who began a good work in us has promised to complete it, which means our job is not to perfect ourselves but to trust the One who is perfecting us.   Read More

You Can't Afford What Christ Already Paid For Galatians 2:20-21 NKJV - "I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me. "I do not set aside the grace of God; for if righteousness comes through the law, then Christ died in vain." If righteousness could be achieved through law-keeping, then Christ's death was unnecessary — but the very fact that it required the death of God's own Son tells us everything about how impossible our debt was to pay on our own. Grace is not a supplement that makes up the difference after we have done our best; it is the entire gift, accomplishing everything we could never accomplish, from beginning to end. As Martin Luther put it, how can we buy for a penny what cost a million dollars — and yet that is exactly what we attempt when we add our works to what Christ has already fully paid. The life we now live is not one of striving to earn what has already been given, but one of faith in the Son of God who loved us and gave Himself completely for us.  Read More

Grace Plus Anything Is No Longer Grace Galatians 1:6-7 (CSB) - I am amazed that you are so quickly turning away from him who called you by the grace of Christ and are turning to a different gospel -- not that there is another gospel, but there are some who are troubling you and want to distort the gospel of Christ. Paul's alarm in Galatians is immediate and unmistakable — the churches were not simply drifting toward a slightly different teaching but turning away from grace itself, trading the true gospel for a corrupted version that added law-keeping as a requirement for salvation. Grace plus anything is no longer grace — the moment a condition is added, it ceases to be the unmerited favor of God and becomes a system of earning what can only be received as a gift. The Judaizers had not improved the gospel; they had gutted it, replacing the freedom of Christ with the burden of the law and calling it good news. We are saved by grace alone, through faith alone, and nothing we do can make God love us more or less — and walking in that truth is precisely what sets us free to be changed by the Holy Spirit.   Read More
