Chains Can't Stop an Ambassador of the King Ephesians 6:19-20 CSB - Pray also for me, that the message may be given to me when I open my mouth to make known with boldness the mystery of the gospel. For this I am an ambassador in chains. Pray that I might be bold enough to speak about it as I should. Paul closes Ephesians not with a request for comfort or release from his chains but with a plea for boldness — the freedom and fearless confidence to proclaim the mystery of the gospel clearly and without reservation. Walk the Way You've Been Treated Ephesians 4:32 CSB - And be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving one another, just as God also forgave you in Christ. Paul's second prayer for the Ephesians is that they would be so rooted and grounded in love that they could begin to comprehend its four dimensions — length, width, height, and depth — a love so vast that even knowing it surpasses knowledge. Like a tree whose roots wrap around bedrock and a building settled on an unshakeable foundation, we are meant to be established in God's love so deeply that nothing can uproot or destabilize us. The story of the prisoner of the Spanish Inquisition scratching those four words around a cross on his dungeon wall captures it perfectly — even in the darkest suffering, God's love extends in every direction beyond what we can measure. Paul paints an unflinching picture of what we were — dead in trespasses, living according to the world, and by nature children of wrath — before introducing the two most powerful words in the story: "But God." Those two words mark the turning point between what was impossible for us and what God accomplished through His rich mercy, great love, and sovereign grace. We were dead, and the dead cannot save themselves — but God made us alive together with Christ, brought us near through His blood, and broke down every wall that stood between the Father and us. Two things he wants them to see clearly: first, that they are precious to God, considered His own inheritance — not because of what they bring to Him but because of how much He has invested in them through love, wisdom, suffering, and glory. Second, the same immeasurable power that raised Jesus from the dead is not a distant theological fact but a living reality available to every believer — capable of raising anyone from any bondage or blindness. It is possible to know about God's power and calling without ever truly walking in them, and Paul's prayer is that we would move from knowing about them to being so enlightened by them that they transform how we live every day.   Read More
