Don’t Grow Weary
by Gary Cheaney on September 25th, 2026
Fruitless Seasons Are Not Finished Seasons 2 Thessalonians 3:13 CSB - But as for you, brothers and sisters, do not grow weary in doing good. Weariness in doing good rarely arrives suddenly — it creeps in over time, often when we cannot see fruit and begin to wonder whether our efforts are making any difference at all. But the absence of visible results is not evidence that God has stopped working — it is an invitation to trust that He sees what we cannot and is faithful to bring the harvest at exactly the right time. Habakkuk's defiant rejoicing in a season of total fruitlessness is the model — celebrating in the Lord not because circumstances are favorable but because God is still God regardless of what the fig tree does or does not produce. Do not give up on that family member, that ministry, that calling, or that act of quiet faithfulness — we will reap at the proper time if we do not quit, and the world still desperately needs what only the gospel can give.   Read More
Encourage Your Hearts

Look Up, Not Around — Jesus Is the One Coming 2 Thessalonians 2:16-17 CSB - May our Lord Jesus Christ himself and God our Father, who has loved us and given us eternal encouragement and good hope by grace, encourage your hearts and strengthen you in every good work and word. The Thessalonians were shaken and disturbed because someone had convinced them they had missed the rapture and were already living through the Great Tribulation — and Paul's response was not primarily theological correction but pastoral encouragement, pointing their eyes back to Jesus and the good hope they had been given by grace. As believers, we are not called to be watchful for signs of falling away or the rise of the Antichrist, but to look for Jesus — His return is our blessed hope, and that hope is enough to steady every anxious heart. God has not appointed us to wrath but to salvation, and the same grace that saved us is the grace that provides eternal encouragement for every confusing and fearful season we face. When the world seems to be unraveling, the answer is not to look around at what is falling apart but to look up at the One who is coming back — and then to encourage one another with exactly that hope.   Read More
In View of This

Start With What God Is Already Doing 2 Thessalonians 1:11-12 CSB - In view of this, we always pray for you that our God will make you worthy of his calling, and by his power fulfill your every desire to do good and your work produced by faith, so that the name of our Lord Jesus will be glorified by you, and you by him, according to the grace of our God and the Lord Jesus Christ. Paul's pattern of prayer is a model worth adopting. Before he brings his requests, he first acknowledges what God is already doing, giving thanks for flourishing faith, growing love, and perseverance through persecution, and even boasting about the Thessalonians among other churches. Beginning with gratitude and recognition of God's work in others shifts our prayer from a list of complaints or needs to a Spirit-led cooperation with what God is already accomplishing. From that foundation of thanksgiving, Paul prays with focused purpose—that God would make them worthy of His calling, fulfill every desire to do good through His power, and ultimately glorify the name of Jesus in and through their lives. The secret to powerful intercession is not to start with what is lacking but with what God is doing, and then to pray in faith that He would do it even more.   Read More
