Entrusted to You

The Gospel Was Deposited in You — Guard It Well 1 Timothy 6:20-21 NKJV - O Timothy Guard what was committed to your trust, avoiding the profane and idle babblings and contradictions of what is falsely called knowledge-- by professing it some have strayed concerning the faith. Grace be with you. Amen. Paul's final charge to Timothy is both personal and urgent — guard what has been entrusted to you, because the gospel is not merely a message to be believed but a treasure to be protected and faithfully passed on. The danger Paul identifies is not outright rejection of the faith but the subtle erosion that comes through impressive-sounding but empty teaching — what is falsely called knowledge — which can lead believers to drift from the cross without even realizing it. Every believer carries this same responsibility, because the gospel has been committed, entrusted, and deposited into each of us — making us stewards of the most valuable truth in existence. Guard it well, contend for it, live it out without dilution or compromise, and never let anything — however sophisticated or culturally appealing — replace the simple, unshakable truth that Jesus alone is the way, the truth, and the life.  Read More
Judging and Partiality
by Gary Cheaney on October 2nd, 2026
Treat Everyone the Way God Has Treated You 1 Timothy 5:21 ESV - In the presence of God and of Christ Jesus and of the elect angels I charge you to keep these rules without prejudging, doing nothing from partiality. Paul's charge to Timothy runs counter to one of the most persistent tendencies in human community — treating people differently based on status, personal attachment, or preconceived judgments rather than with consistent fairness and grace. Whether rebuking, supporting, or disciplining, every action in the church must be carried out without prejudging or partiality, honoring each person with the same equity that God shows toward all who come to Him. Adam Clarke's reminder is sobering — every person in the church should be dealt with as they will be dealt with at the judgment seat of Christ, where status and favoritism carry no weight, only grace, mercy, and truth. The standard for how we treat others is how God has treated us — with compassion, impartiality, and a love that makes no distinctions based on rank, age, or personal preference.   Read More
Age Is Just a Number
by Gary Cheaney on October 1st, 2026
Maturity Is Measured in Character, Not Years 1 Timothy 4:12 CSB - Don't let anyone despise your youth, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith, and in purity. Paul's charge to Timothy — don't let anyone despise your youth — was not permission to demand respect but a call to earn it through the undeniable evidence of Christlike character in speech, conduct, love, faith, and purity. Age neither qualifies nor disqualifies anyone from being a genuine example of the faith, because maturity is measured not in years but in the consistent, daily demonstration of a life shaped by Jesus. Some of the most inspiring examples of faithful living come from the youngest among us, while some of the most disappointing failures come from those with decades of experience — which means no one gets a pass, and no one gets disqualified based on a number. The calling to be an example is universal — young and old alike are invited to live in such a way that others are pointed not to their age or experience but to the Christ who is being formed in them.  Read More
Pillar and Foundation of Truth
by Gary Cheaney on September 30th, 2026
Six Pillars That Hold Up Everything We Believe 1 Timothy 3:16 CSB - And most certainly, the mystery of godliness is great: He was manifested in the flesh, vindicated in the Spirit, seen by angels, preached among the nations, believed on in the world, taken up in glory. Paul distills the mystery of godliness into six foundational pillars — manifested in flesh, vindicated in the Spirit, seen by angels, preached among the nations, believed on in the world, and taken up in glory — each one a load-bearing truth that upholds everything the church is and proclaims. From His incarnation to His ascension, the entire arc of Christ's life and ministry is captured here, revealing a God who entered our world, proved His identity, accomplished His mission, and now reigns in glory as our intercessor. These are not abstract theological propositions but the unshakable pillars on which every believer's faith, identity, and hope securely rests — truths that have withstood every attack and carried the church through every century. We do not waver because our foundation is not our own strength or cleverness but Christ Himself — and He is solid enough to build an entire life, and an entire eternity, upon.   Read More
The Gospel in Four Words: God, Mediator, Christ, Ransom
by Gary Cheaney on September 29th, 2026
One God, One Way, One Price — Paid in Full 1 Timothy 2:5-6 CSB - For there is one God and one mediator between God and mankind, the man Christ Jesus, who gave himself as a ransom for all, a testimony at the proper time. Four foundational truths form the bedrock of the gospel — one God who planned our salvation in perfect Trinitarian unity, one Mediator who alone grants access to the Father, Christ Jesus who is fully God and fully man and therefore perfectly suited to stand in the gap, and a ransom paid for all through His substitutionary death on the cross. Jesus is not one way among many — He is the way, and to suggest that God should provide additional options is to look at the cross and declare that the agonizing sacrifice of the spotless Son of God was somehow insufficient. As our Mediator, He understands both parties perfectly, and as our ransom, He did not merely offer the payment — He is the payment, satisfying the just wrath of God against sin completely and finally. Because the Father planned it, the Son accomplished it, and the Spirit seals it, we have full and free access to God — and the only appropriate response is a life of deep and overflowing gratitude.   Read More
Trustworthy

If He Could Save the Worst, He Can Save Anyone 1 Timothy 1:15 CSB - This saying is trustworthy and deserving of full acceptance: "Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners" -- and I am the worst of them. Paul's declaration that he was the worst of sinners was not false humility but deep conviction rooted in the memory of his own violence against the early church — and yet that is precisely what makes his salvation the most powerful proof of God's extraordinary mercy and patience. If Jesus could save the chief of sinners, then no one can claim their sin is too great, their past too dark, or their rebellion too severe to be reached by grace — Paul's life becomes the exhibit that silences despair once and for all. The only prerequisite for salvation has always been being a sinner, and some of us have excelled at it — yet the grace remains, inexhaustible and freely offered to all who will receive it. When this truth truly sinks in, the only appropriate response is the one Paul gives — bursting into praise to the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only God, to whom be honor and glory forever and ever.   Read More
